PVC cement mistake?

Posted by tstab on October 14th, 2007 02:07 PM

I am using Oatey's Medium-Clear PVC Cement product to glue several PVC pipe fittings. I am new at this and missed one part of the directions - shaking the bottle beforehand. (I was looking at the numbered steps and didn't see that line). I have connected several of the fittings, but each time, I did not shake the bottle, and the cement was definitely more gel-like. (By comparison, once I reread the directions and shook the same bottle, the cement appeared to be more fluid). I was using the primer each time.

Although the bonds look solid now, my question is about the fittings I have already glued - whether they are more likely to fail in the future and whether I should fix it now.

1. Should I cut away the fittings and re-do the whole project?
2. Should I leave the fittings but apply a new coat of primer/cement on the outside of each connection to compensate?
3. Should I leave as is?

Thanks for your help.
