Roofing: Asphalt -vs- Stone-coated Steel Shingles

We are looking at doing a re-roofing residential project, and wondered about the cost, as well as comparisons, between steel vs asphalt shingles. Our's is an older 1928 house with a pitched gambrel type roof. We would have a licensed roofer do the job. We're in the Midwest and have not seen very many residences with steel shingles yet.
