GAS dryer not heating

There is no "heating element" in a gas dryer. They use a burner (an actual flame) instead.

** once in a while it will heat up, but most of the time it runs cool. **

What is the burner's ignitor doing when it should be heating? Is it glowing continuously? Turning on and off? or not glowing at all???

Those observations will be needed to start to diagnose possible causes.
