I have a 36 inch 1988 JP690 that works beautifully...when it unlocks. Since mid 2003, it now locks itself for 2 or 3 days to 2 or 3 months at a time. Then it works fine for 2-4 months.

I see that it is possible to repair/replace the "burners". If anyone wants mine, I have just replaced it with a new Kenmore.....I guess I should have looked here first. May have been able to make a simple repair. I will never buy another GE appliance and bad-mouth that company to everyone who will listen.
