Baseboard Heater Thermostats

I'm trying to install a thermostat on a new baseboard heater. There are black & red wires on the thermostat, as well as the baseboard unit.
I pop the cicuit when I go black to black/red to red AND when I go red/black - red/black.
The instructions are pretty terrible - can anyone send me a diagram of the wiring for this puppy?
