Check the oil level. If it's "dry", it's possible you siezed the engine the last time you had it running.
This is rare, but check to see if the cord jumped off of the recoil reel and is jambed inside the cover.
One more, that I can think of is a stuck exhaust valve or on OHV engines, a broken rocker arm
