Your post sounds like more than one switch is not working properly. Is this just a case of worn out switch? Did the switches previously work properly but no longer do? Replacing a defective light switch is a rather simple straight-forward repair. Just ensure that the power to the circuit is off at the breaker/fuse box and wire the new one in the same pattern as the old. Are these two way or three way switches? The way you tell is if the switch has"off" and "on" embossed on it, it is a two way. If there is no "off/on" designation, you have at least a three way switch. A bit more information is needed to assist you.
