Than the range must 'think' it IS locked which I can only see be caused by a problem in the locking mechanism, its switches or maybe a slim chance a problem in the electronic control. Someone is likely going to actually investigate to see which.

Things can fail without them being externally damaged.

** although self cleaning mode works fine, the other temperature settings wont turn the oven on. **

If the control 'thinks' the oven is in cleaning mode, it will usually prevent any other oven functions from operating.
