Shed Roof on Patio

Yes, this can be done, as long as your deck is properly secured into the ground. Make sure that you have enough support under you deck to handle the stress (example: 6x6 posts every 8 feet). Once that is done, take your patio rail off. Then, just put your 4x4 posts down (almost where you had your rail posts, or every 8 feet) and build your roof.I recommend going up at least 2 (shingle)rows up the roof of your house to ensure that you have a good flow of water from house to edge.

P.S. It also makes it a lot easier when (or if) you decide to turn the patio into a room.
