Suggested fix for sloping window stool -- proper approach? Posted by ssmathers on January 8th, 2008 10:54 AM
I have a number of windows in my home where the stool (inside sill) is sloping from left to right or back to front, and sometimes warped in the middle. A couple contractors have quoted fixes to these windows: the first recommends removing the stool, shortening its length and then readjusting it between the two jambs. Problem is, this approach will cost a hefty amount of money.
The second contractor has suggested a cheaper approach whereby he would affix a thin piece of steel to the existing stool and shim or otherwise adjust that to be level. He says that it would not be noticeable once painted. I'm just wondering if this is an approach worth considering, or will I not be happy with the results -- either aesthetically or due to potential future problems.
