In reply to Help Wiring Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan w/ Remote? by Unregistered-hussey1213 on January 12th, 2008 02:25 AM [Go to top of thread]

"Between them is a transmitter for the remote.
2 wires to the ceiling: White and Black
3 wires to the fan: White, Black, and Blue."

That would be the remote receiver. The transmitter would be the handheld or device that replae the wall switch.

If all you have in the ceiling box is the one cable or one conduit with the Red, Black, white, green/or bare then that means that the box was prewired for a ceiling fan.

At the switch box you have both the blakc and red so that they can be wired to a fan controller which has separate control for dimming the light and fan speed control.

With such wiring you don't need a remote control system.

But you need to open the switch box (or make tests) to see, but most likely the red is switched and the black was left unconnected.
