Garage door issue.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I omitted the brand. It is a Craftsman 1/2 hp. It is an older model, not sure of age but at least 12 years old. I believe it does have a capacitor.

I have checked the door operation sans the motor and it is fine. Opens smoothly without more than minimal efforts.

When the door is not attached to the opener mechanisms, the motor does not move. It only makes a small hum and stops.

I am almost thinking that since it is this old, maybe I should bite the bullet and get a new one.
