to install a couple power'd foundation vents controlled by a humidistat,,, not expensive at all.
'someone' is technically right that wtr doesn't run uphill but, in your specific instance, wrong,,, wtr runs downhill, seeks its own level, & rushes to fill voids - so much for his theory if all's as you describe.
i would't worry if it were my crawl space,,, placing gravel won't resolve the issue as gravel won't 'sponge' the water/dampness
