hardwood floor installation

I purchased three quarter inch hw. Is there a problem with using finishing nails through the bottom of the groove or through the tongue? The manufacturer stated to nail straight down through the finished wood and then putty, which a floor man did in my staircase and my better half notices the putty holes and she is not all that observant at times. I have an 18 gauge nailer and will be nailing to a subfloor on an older home (built 1969). Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
