mold/mildew

In the bedrooms of our home, north, east and west facing, mold or mildew grows on the ceiling in certain spots of rooms- the same spots all the time. Mostly this happens in the winter months. I say that there should never be mold or mildew. My husband says that because we keep the heat at a lower tempurature in the bedrooms, it can grow mold and mildew. The ceiling in these areas is damp also. I don't feel that it should ever be damp, that would indicate a leak or dampness entering those ares and creating the problems.
