Noise from GE Monogram hood ZV950 Posted by Pete Borowski on January 15th, 2008 01:51 PM
Sirs, I'm in need of a solution. For the last 3 years since building this new home we continue to have a noise problem coming from this hood. The noise is being created by some sort of flapper above the fan motors. Every thime the wind blows over 12 MPH it lifts up those flappers and chimes. There have been many times when the sound has been so loud that we have to close our bedroom door to get some sleep, and its 75 feet away from the kitchen. GE has been of no help what so ever --even after I sent them a tape of the sounds it creates. No manager of GE would stand for these sounds in there home for 10 minutes much less hours and hours. I have had the roof vent goose neck replaced with a low profile exhust vent and that has reduced the noise by maybe 20% but it is still very noises and often a factor. One can not remove the fan motors to access this area of the hood because it bolts from the top down. I have a decortive wrap around GE cover that goes up about 13 feet into the attic and it would need to come down to remove the duct work and try to address the problem. Any suggestions for me? Could I harm myself if I removed those flappers? I live in SW Florida where cold weather is not often an issue. The last time I talked to GE they suggested an insulation foam type tape be applied to the outside of the cover to soften the sound---ya that would sure look nice on there $1200.00 hood in our kitchen. The sounds are driving me to the edge! Really appreciate your reply In Advance Thank You Best Pete Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
