Adding a room to a finished basement

I have been asked to add a room to our existing basement,and I have a question relative to the carpet.

I believe the best way is to cut the carpet where I intend to put the wall and trim it up once the wall is built? Any suggestions?

As well, should I put additional "carpet fasteners" down to secure the carpet near the newly completed wall?
