Clunk noise under house

Throughout the day, about every half hour, I will hear a clunking noise from under my house. There is not much under the house with the exception of pipes. I have an older home which has been added on to a number of times. The only access I have to this plumbing is under the house. There is a small crawl space only. I was wondering if the noise I am hearing could possibly be the Water hammer problem that has been described in other forums or is it something more that I should pay closer attention to. Any help would be much appreciated.
