Caring for a dining table made of reclaimed pine

Posted by Nattyr on January 17th, 2008 10:23 AM

Hello all,

I am new to this website and am a fairly new home owner. I need some advice. I just purchased a beautiful table from Sundance Catalog -- the Longmont Table -- (see link: http://www.sundancecatalog.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemType=PRODUCT&iProductID=11275&itemID=11275)
The very next day after it arrived I accidentally spilled water on the table from a heat kettle. The water was pretty hot. The portion of the table that encounter the water seems to be much lighter now, although I wiped the water right away. Also, you can see where the water was spilled from a far. Also, these little white, almost salt-like or crystalline like minerals have developed where the spilled occurred. The are sort of embedded in the nicks and grooves of the table. I called Sundance and they said that the table was finished with beeswax (although the table looks very lightly finished). I am guessing the salt minerals are from the finish. How do I fix this so that the spill stain does not show from a far, the white salt deposits disappear and the finish will be restored (so that it looks like the rest of the table. Below are photos of the table, where you can see the discoloration where I spilled the hot water, and a close up showing the salt-like deposit. Help. Thanks. http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/4865/img1325zu6.jpg
