I have a 42 ft long bearing wall in the basement of a 2 story house. I want to put 4 openings in the wall - a 4 ft opening, a 5 ft opening, a 7 ft pocket door and a 6 1/2 ft opening. On the sides of each will be 3 - 2x6 uprights plus cripples. I plan to make the beams above the openings. I planned on 3 - 2x10's with 1/2" plywood between. Of course, plates at top and bottom are 2x6's as well as the studs.
What is recommended for beams above the openings?
