modular homes are different from manufactured homes that are built to according to the federal hud building code. modular homes are built to the local building code so the quality is about the same as stick built homes. modular home manufacturers claim they over engineer the homes to make it sronger but they also need to transport the modules on highways so i think it equalizes out. im considering a modular home myself. i found some decent information about modular homes at http://www.modulartoday.com. dont know how informed their reviews are but it was interesting. good luck
