Electrical wiring

I have a concrete slab family room that I would like to run an electical outlet box to the middle of the room for lamps etc. I thought the best way would be to cut a trench in the slab and run through a conduit. Any other suggestions, as I also understand that one can buy flat wire so that it will show under the carpet? Any other ideas would be appreciated. Distance from wall to mid room is about 8ft.
