We have an old house (1920). Last year had the basement waterproofed (dug up outside)b/c we'd get a trickle of water with big storms. It now seems dry. It's partially finished panelling at the bottom, drywall at the top, 11 by 20'. We ripped up old vinyl tiles and want to put down a cheap carpet. We'd use the room as a place for teenage boys to hang out and have band practice. The floor is uneven old concrete. We'd heard never to put a carpet pad in the basement, but the home depot and lowe's guys have suggested a olefin carpet with a foam pad attached. They suggest using double sided tape on the edges to hold it down. What do you think?
