Heat Pump vs Gas Furnace/AC

Looking for opinions. We have a 24 year old Carrier Heat Pump, efficiency rating of maybe a 2. We are located in the mountains of western NC, last summer's high was 114, today's low was 11. There is a natural gas line that runs down my street.

Would I be better off with a new Heat Pump, or a new natural gas furnace and conventional AC system?
