replacing light bulbs in fixtures

I am baffled about how to replace the light bulb in my kitchen ceiling fixture. There are no screws holding the glass in place and it doesn't seem to unscrew, either. I am hesitant to "pop" the glass portion away from the metal flange that is flush to the ceiling. HELP!!!!
