JMO you are ontime! What he refers to as far as new installs is a metal plug built
into the neck of the disposal. Not all
houses have dishwashers and this knock out plug is not removed unless you are installing the disposer with a dishwasher
On the neck of the disposal is a small
pipe where the dishwasher hose attaches
check to make sure the knock out is removed. If not knock it out, and remove
before even putting the disposal near
the sink drain like in the middle of the kitchen floor. turn the disposal upside
down and shake the knock out out of the unit visually put it in your hand and then carry it and throw it in the trash.
If the disposal plug is removed then the
hose from the disposer is clogged between the siphon valve and the disposal. Take it loose and check for
obstructions.Remove and take the hose
outside and smack it hard and then try to run water from a hose through it if
it backs up still and your patience is
wearing thin replace the hose. If you
have a electricians fish tape push it through the hose and dislodge the obstruction. Reinstall and check dishwasher to disposal operation. One
indication it is working is that it doesn't blow out of the siphon breaker
and you can hear the water rapidly draining in the disposer neck.
