Yes, it got clogged because you were without a filter. There is always a possibility that a tank needs to be replaced; but as your heater is running now, there is no ground water coming into the tank through a leak, so that is less likely.

Yes, you really have to find out the MAKE and MODEL to get good answers. There IS more than one machine made.
