fireproofing an attic door

jaduan... sounds like your attic access is in the garage.if it is the 5/8 inch drywall thats in the hole gives you a 1 hour fire rateing but if whats holding it in the hole is just a simple door caseing nailed around the opening thats where your looseing your fire rateing.. it will burn away and the drywall cover will fall out.
if it isnt in the garage thats a difrent problem so let me know if that helps RAY
