Bill is right you do need an ejector pump any time you are pumping from below grade.an ejector pump is used sewage(that has poop in it). Gray water is just water you wouldnt drink from washers showers ect.A sump pump should never be used it a basement there used in little ponds or to move WATER from one level to another.
An ejector pump dont even need to be in a hole. they can set rite on the basement floor in thier SEALED plastic drum
