running water in basement Posted by epolgar on February 2nd, 2008 08:58 AM
we got 3 inches of rain yesterday and my basement got a small amount of water running from the stairs to the drain. the house was built in 1948 and is currently for sale...after looking closer the stair stringers leading into the basement were actually set into the foundation and it appears hydrostatic pressure is forcing water up through cracks were the foundation and wood stringers meet...what should i do...the wood is still in good shape but i think it will rot over time...how do i stop the water...we are located in the middle of a hill just at a point were it evens and water will pool around the property line but not near the house...gutters are new and drainage otherwise is good...is there a way to release the pressure from under the house? is there a DIY fix for a handy person with time....thanks for the help
