A clamped on patch may be OK for a drain pipe leak, but it is not a long-term cure for the supply lines. In fact, I doubt that you could stop a leak with a clamp on patch at a soldered fitting. Better do it the correct way. What's the big deal in cutting and draining a water line, anyway?
