Use a combination wrench

After trying the pliers method, I decided to try a combination wrench. I put the open end into the drain between the cross-bars and used the pipe wrench to loosen it. Then I put a screwdriver into the closed-end and quickly unscrewed it...an ideal tool in my opinion. I probably could have loosened it with the screwdriver also.
