cracks in stucco

We recently bought a stucco home that was built in 2000. It had just been painted and looked pristine. Now after 5 months we are seeing hairline cracks in areas that have previously (we didn't notice before)been patched. We live on an island and have been told that there aren't many foundation problems here because of the sand. So my question is this: are these cracks normal? Is there a way for us to fix them ourselves?
