What you are describing sounds like Rigid Thermofoil (RTF). These are pressed on with heat and vacuum and I do not know of a way to repair them.

You can buy replacement doors at a number of places, either custom sized, http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=5986&filter=cabinet%20doors

or Home Depot, Lowe's, and kitchen cabinet suppliers.
