The house I am renting has very cheap, dark cabinets in the kitchen. The only parts of the cabinets that are solid wood are the door frames. Everything else is either vinyl over MDF or paper on hardboard. Physicaly the cabinets are in good shape, they are just very ugly. What I'd like to know is can these surfaces be painted? If so how do I prep them and what type of paint would be best to use? My concern is that the solvents in the paint would lift the vinyl and paper simulated wood finish.
