Live in Newfoundland, 3 inch pipe on roof, bungalow with full developed basement, smell is inside in rec room, house trap i'm not sure of. If this is a backwater valve that you mean, then no, we don't have one. If pipe was broken or loose, then wouldn't odor be there all the time?
