Removal of the tack strips isn't a difficult task. The trick is to do so without damaging the flooring. I assume you have hardwood floors which you wish to refurbish. I would suggest that you purchase a thin trim pry bar which can be slipped under the tack strip and provide a hard surface against which you may pry with a claw hammer or another pry bar. This will keep from damaging the flooring with pry marks. I have used both Vice Grip pliers and needle nosed pliers for removal of the padding staples.
