Are you certain it is sewer gas and not rotting insulation or mold in a heating duct.

Do you get a lot of ice on the side of the home?

Do you have a leak in your roof from ice dams?

The extra cold temperature may find its way to a duct and if your central heat gets some condensation on the inside of the duct you may get some mold.
