Dishwashers drain first

** Inside the door it says that motor noises without water initially is normal. What is the purpose of this? **

To drain the sump area at the bottom of the tub of any residual waste water before filling with clean water for the latest wash cycle. Some water usually has to remain in the sump area to keep the pump seals moist between use.
