basement window replacment Posted by scale21 on May 11th, 2008 08:15 AM
I have a house that was build in the mid 50s. The basement windows are shot and are the standard hopper / awning style.
3 of the 4 sides are concrete.
What is the best way to go about replacing these.
THe sill board has been removed on one (rotted) and upon inspection it would look like the sill is not flat but a graded area (i would guess to keep water from running in as they are on ground level).
I don know if this can be flattend out. Most replacement windows have a pretty hefty flat vinyl frame so i would need a flat spot to anchor it to.
I was thinking of building a pt frame so i have somthing to screw the new replacment vinyls into but im not sure what the standard width is here for a frame. Obviously you would want to anchor that frame on all 4 sides with concrete anchors. Do you want to run some sort of sealant around the frame against the concrete as well or do you just caulk that in later?
any help or direction here would be greatly appreciated. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
