I have a similar situation with 4 identical hampton Bay accubreeze 52" fans we just had mounted in four different rooms. The one on a down rod in the kitchen is quiet as can be. That one is on new wiring. The other three are flush mounted in the bedrooms upstairs replacing older fans. The older fans each operated with a rheostat (variable speed) and we had that changed to an on -0ff switch, using the chain to adjust speed on the new fans.

THe old fans hummed until the rheostat was turned to its max then they stopped humming. The new fans all hum as soon as the fans are turned on and the hum just gets louder the higher the speed. Reversing direction of the blade movement makes no difference. there is little actual obvious vibration. The hum stops AS SOON AS the switch is turned to off even though the fan keeps spinning to an eventual stop.

So perhaps it is not just the cheap fans but the wiring? Since the same fan on new wiring is silent?
