When the "dogs" wear out that move your agitator around inside the hub of your agitator, they begin to audibly slip until they finally stop moving it completely. The plastic ends wear out and will no longer move the agitator when resistance becomes too much. You can buy the parts to fix it at Sears (Part # 80040......... 4 plastic "dogs" CHEAP). Repair is simple and requires very little skill. Hardest part was getting the cover off the agitator shaft. Remove a nut inside the hub and replace the "dogs" in the same position as you find them as it is imperative to get the drive to the agitator. Put the pieces back together and off you go.
