Since both your units are experiencing the same problem it is possible they are both having the same failure but because that is highly unlikely I would work very hard to rule out the most likely culprits.
If you have 2 systems acting the same you look for what they have in common, in this case environment you say you keep it 65 degrees is this a full basement or walk out what is the actual humidity If a dx cooling system is freezing up (and that is what a dehumidifier is) there are only so many causes
1. low airflow (not enough transfer media [air or water] to pick up heat from)
2. low refrigerant pressure either from a restriction in the system or low refrigerant charge
3. The system is running out of its design parameters (environment too cold)
4. Control devices are not working properly causing too long run times.

Consider all that I have addressed and lat me know if any of these make sense in this situation.

I'm sorry one more possibility I just thought of because you said you did not have to empty them much the drains could be plugged up causing water to sit beneath the coil creating a freeze up possibility.
