We took out two tubs by ourselves. I built a large shower (travertine) in the one spot and put a jetted tub in place of the other old tub. It took some muscle, but worked out okay. Discarding the old tub was a bit of a hastle. The first tub was cast iron. I broke it to bits with a sledge hammer - it sure shook the house. The other tub was steel. I banged on it a bit with the hammer - then upon learning it was steel, I cut around the drain where it was attached and carried it out of the house whole. I ded hire a plumber to help with the prep work before installing the new fixtures. Good luck.
