Are you sure its rust.. Posted by Dodgeman on September 5th, 2000 12:23 PM In reply to Cleaning granite headstones by Lin on September 5th, 2000 11:58 AM [Go to top of thread]
Whenever I manage to get back up to the old hometown, and get out to the gravesites of my family, I notice a redish/grey stain that has to be cleaned off. As it turns out, the stains are actually a type of mold that forms gradually over a 2 to 3 year period. I get them looking good as new by cleaning with a solution a bleach (about a cup to a gallon of water) The shine of the granite doesn't seem to suffer. For the water stains, I would think vinegar would do the trick. For polishing granite, I would check with Wimmer Granite and Supply Co. 715 355 1361 They should be able to help you, as they are a supplier of headstones. Good Luck! Dodgeman
