White Cedar Mold and Rot

Posted by borkoveck on September 2nd, 2008 03:11 PM

I have a ten year old cedar deck that has been treated with Sikkens products after caulking around ballusters. We have a very humid lakefront property. Any areas that had cracks in the cedar and knot holes developed mold under the "skin" and eventually peeled off. I have now decided to rebuild the deck using Trex as a frame for wrought iron or aluminum inserts of ballusters and new Trex posts. The deck floor has been stripped and restained with a penetrating stain. Any better ideas? Any photos of my type of Trex railings? Thanks for your input. borkoveck
