roof thermostatic cables Posted by D McStowe on September 10th, 2000 09:07 AM
Last year we had some ice daming on both our upper and lower roofs. To avoid a repeat, we are now thinking of installing heating cables along the roof lines, gutters, and downspout, all total over 100 feet, there abouts. Our question threefold: 1)The only place I have seen these cables is in a magazine. They come in 30-60-90' rolls. They also list a separate thermostatic control that senses the ambient temperature and automatically turns the cable on and off. We have two roof lines, would I need a separate theremostat for each or could one control both? 2) Is there a preferred brand name that you would recommend and if so do you know of a retail outlet where it is sold? 3) Are these systems considered safe?
