installing any masonary over wood is a risky biz. lath or hardy brd. is preferable. if the installer didn`t wet the surfaces to start, it could get worse. when portland products of any kind lose moisture too fast, they become brittle-unadhesive: the bonding structure falls apart. try redoing the grout first. then demo the whole thing and start over rite.
