under your system ??? sounds as it it sprung a leak,,, ponds do not 'sink' :-) neither do brooks/rivers - waterflow erodes the boundaries however that's not usually called 'sinking' - for a reference, think of the grand canyon & colorado river.
no sealer OR paint will resolve this problem but that's only my opinion.
