insulating attic space 1 1/2 story house

We had our attic space insulated this summer. It is a 50-60 yr old house There is insualtion in the floor of the bedroom attic spaces (blown in, seems to be enough when we removed hole plugs and checked). The we did have just pink insulation up against the knee wall, no vapor barrier or backing, and do have evidence of some condensation damage to the side walls of the bedrooms, in the corners especially. The roof slope of this attic space was uninsulated. The walls are quite uninsulated.

The contractor removed the insulation from the knee wall, and placed new stuff on the roof slope instead. He then placed poly over top of this all, securing it with tape and caulking over onto the floor and also over where the slope and top of knee wall join, making this space part of the warm space of the house therefore vapor barrier to the warm side. For the attic space above the ceiling in front of the bedrooms, he blew in more insulation down into the roof slope I think, and more on top of the floor of the attic. Unfortunately I think there are no baffles out there and judging by pics he put alot of stuff up there...I am worried they are blocked.

We do need to replace the soffits next year (wooden, no vents) Roof was done this year, more gable vents added. In the attic space there was a vertical piece of wood sort of acting as a "brace" at the base of the floor whre it joined the angled roof between the joists to I assume keep the insulation out of the soffit space...he did try to avoid these.

Is what I describe an acceptable way of insulating? Most references I have seen online talk about insulating the knee wall and floor and NOT the slope, although I have found some few and far between references to doing it the way we did it. Problem is, I do still see a bit of ice damming and icicles although less than last year, especially at one corner of the house (tiny corner attic space where 2 triangular part of the rood abouve windows on 2 sides of the house meet)

Advice anyone?
